Knoblauch Shags Some Flies
By THE NEW YORK TIMES
AMPA, Fla., March 20 — Chuck Knoblauch took fly balls in the outfield for the first time today, in preparation for his switch to left field. "It's time to turn the page," he told the outfield coach Lee Mazzilli this morning.

With Mazzilli working alongside, Knoblauch concentrated on footwork in his first session — 30 minutes on a back field — and in a second session, during batting practice, he focused on reading the ball off the bat. Knoblauch declined to talk to some reporters afterward, but Mazzilli said he saw enough to believe that Knoblauch will make a smooth transition from second base to left.

"You have someone who's willing and coachable, and that's more than half the battle," said Mazzilli, who wants to work with Knoblauch for at least another day before Knoblauch is put into the lineup in left field. "There's no immediate rush to put him out there," Mazzilli said. "I want him to be confident before he goes out there."<<
