Political power can, and has often been, used in this country to deprive people of freedom. I believe that Franklin Roosevelt imprisoned a lot of people in this country simply on the basis that they were of Japanese descent. They did not lose just their civil liberties - they lost their homes and businesses too. Makes Lincoln look like a saint by comparison.
