re: Nokia 6310 with WTAI, vCard, vCal Support

<< I asked Tero if he thought it was possible to reach 40% marketshare. He said no....I cant stand it, he is always so damn negative on Nokia <g> >>

Not only negative on Nokia but MIA.

Maybe he'll come out and play now that Spring has Sprung.

Speaking of negativity ... can't believe ole "Buck" here ... he seems to be warming up to Nokia.

"The Nokia 6310 incorporates WTAI (Wireless Telephony Application Interface) Public Library which enables you to make a phone call from a WAP site. With this application, it is no longer necessary to terminate a WAP session to make a phone call. Instead you can temporarily interrupt it to make the call, after which you automatically return to the site, for example when browsing a car rental site to reserve a car. With vCard support it is possible to automatically save contact information such as a business card listed on a WAP site to the phone's memory. Similarly, vCal support allows you to save a calendar appointment from a WAP site to the phone's calendar."

WTAI is a sophisticated part of the WAP standard that is a poweful utility to allow the development of a multitude of powerful applications and services. This Wireless Telephony Application feature of the WAP standard has been mired in controversy since WAP started as the network operators, handset vendors and others battled to keep control of the user behavior, despite the pleas of aplication developers to incorporate the functionality in earlier releases of the WAP specification.

Congratulations to Nokia for enabling this poweful WAP functionality in its new phone. <<

Ericsson might actually have a challenger with their new GPRS handset...color display, MMS, and Bluetooth built-in. For once, the design is actually decent....expected by the end of '01.
