Arch Wireless Introduces the 'Arch Webster(TM) 300' With the Glenayre @ctiveLink(TM) Module
Two-Way Messaging Combines with Personal Digital Assistant To Result in Unparalleled Convenience, Flexibility
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Mar 21, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS chart, msgs), a leader in unified communications solutions, and Arch Wireless, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARCH chart, msgs), a leading wireless Internet messaging and mobile information company, today announced the launch of the latest in a line of Arch Webster(TM) interactive products, the Arch Webster(TM) 300. The Arch Webster 300 combines the ability to send and receive messages wirelessly with a full-featured handheld computer through Glenayre's @ctiveLink(TM) module. The module snaps seamlessly into the Springboard(TM) slot of the Handspring(TM) Visor(TM) Deluxe personal digital assistant (PDA).

The new features transform the Handspring Visor Deluxe from a PDA into a wireless interactive messaging and information management tool. As a result, Arch Webster 300 customers can send and receive e-mail, access the Internet, and synchronize handheld and desktop personal information management information even when away from the office.

"We are thrilled to be working with Arch Wireless on the development of the Arch Webster 300," said Jim Kelly, Glenayre's senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "Now Arch can offer their outstanding wireless services to their subscribers via the powerful and versatile Handspring Visor handheld computer. The Glenayre @ctiveLink module will continue to revolutionize the way service providers, like Arch Wireless, can enhance interactive messaging with their subscribers."

Wireless e-mail and Internet applications are pre-loaded on the Arch Webster 300, so there is no complicated set up. The @ctiveLink module can receive and store approximately 150,000 characters for e-mails and other messages and has up to four weeks of battery life with two AAA batteries. The @ctiveLink wireless messaging module provides Always @ctive(TM) connectivity so it can receive and store messages and e-mail 24 hours a day, even when removed from the Handspring Visor PDA. Constant connectivity to the Arch network ensures that all critical communications are received and that users can send and receive messages without having to first log on.

"The Visor is the first PDA enabled for our ReFLEX network, giving our customers full personal information management functionality with outstanding two-way wireless messaging coverage and penetration," said Steve Gross, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Arch Wireless. "We plan to continue adding such highly advanced products and services to our portfolio, leveraging the flexibility of our network to provide the widest range of wireless messaging services that can meet virtually anyone's wireless needs."

The Glenayre @ctiveLink module, winner of Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association's (CTIA) Consumer Appliance Award, snaps seamlessly into the Springboard(TM) slot of the Handspring Visor handheld computer to wirelessly enable the powerful personal information management (PIM) utilities of the handheld. The @ctiveLink module provides Always @ctive(TM) constant connectivity to a ReFLEX-based network.

ReFLEX-based networks are wireless data networks that provide two-way interactive messaging between wireless devices and the Internet. Unlike other wireless networks, ReFLEX-based networks have broad nationwide coverage and superior in-building penetration as well as allow for ReFLEX-based devices to have long battery life to ensure that subscribers will receive their messages at any time, in almost any location.

Oh yea, did I mention GEMS also has deals with QCOm amongst others...or that institutions were buying.......and a pe of about 9

OK Ed, waiting for you to tell me all the bad news, which I already know about...lowered guidance due to slower spending and etc, etc.....But, I see lots of positives....just go back 6 months and see all the deals they have done.......I see them being right smack dab in the middle of the wireless revolution in my opinion. They owned the paging industry at one point...took some knocks on the head as technology changed and now here they are again making strides to regain their dominance.....do your own DD though.....

Glenayre and Epic Innovation Team Up to Release The First Putonghua Text-to-speech Unified Messaging Solution
Full Version Announced at the Asian IT and Infrastructure Expo in Hong Kong
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Mar 21, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS chart, msgs), a leader in unified communications solutions, and Epic Innovation today announced the introduction of 1Num using Glenayre's Unified Messaging Services (UMS) platform. Introduced by Epic at this year's Asian IT and Infrastructure Expo in Hong Kong, February 22-25, 1Num features the first Putonghua-version text-to-speech feature. Epic's use of Glenayre's platform is an excellent example of the versatility and flexibility of Glenayre's openUMS(TM) Application Programming Interface (API) to support customized applications that meet carrier needs.

Over the past 6 months, Epic has developed a number of functional and truly operational features to enhance the basic unified messaging services of 1Num. These include Chinese Interface and Chinese text-to-speech, Multi Network and Multi-media messaging, and Advanced Notification to mobile terminals. Importantly, Epic's localized 1Num is backed by a telecom grade system architecture that supports different devices, platforms or networks.

"We are very pleased to be an integral part of Epic's launch of their 1Num UMS in Hong Kong" said Jim Kelly, Glenayre's Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. "This alliance further demonstrates the worldwide value of providing the openUMS API for third-party developers." Kelly continues, "as a global leader in unified communications, Glenayre systems are operated by 575 service providers in 68 countries. Every day, over 100 million messages are deposited into Glenayre mailboxes worldwide."

Glenayre is the first company to allow access to its Unified Messaging Services (UMS) platform by offering an API for third-party developers to build applications such as voice portal services, Internet content, Personal Information Management, address book management and Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) applications. By allowing for third-party development on the UMS platform, Glenayre can quickly develop new services and build unique solutions to target any market. This is especially valuable worldwide where there is constant need to integrate customized Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) and different languages for text-to-speech and voice activation services. The openUMS API is available for developers at Glenayre's Developer's Zone at www.Glenayre.net .

1Num is based on Glenayre's UMS platform that integrates voice and data messaging services to Internet subscribers so that Internet users can have visual voice mail, e-mail and fax messages. By offering the widest range of services available on a single platform, Glenayre's openUMS platform can help providers address unlimited niches in consumer, corporate, small office/home office, and specialized market segments for maximum revenues in wireless or wireline networks.

According to Mr. Clarence Liu, Operations Manager at Epic, "The Asian IT and Infrastructure Expo is indeed a perfect arena for us to showcase, amongst others, the Chinese Putonghua text-to-speech feature. This reinforces Hong Kong's talents and its ability to build competitive solutions."

Glenayre's Unified Messaging Services (UMS) platform, part of the company's Enhanced Services Platform line of products, allows service providers to offer subscribers an easy way to manage their voice, e-mail and fax messages through an Internet-based graphical interface. Utilizing the UMS platform also allows service providers to offer an array of other value-added services such as integrated short messaging services that allow subscribers to send and receive short messages through their mobile, interactive devices; voice activated services, which allow subscribers to place calls and navigate their voice mailbox utilizing voice commands; and Constant Touch(R) service which allows subscribers to consolidate their telephone, cellular, pager and other numbers into one convenient telephone number so they can be reached any time, anywhere.

The Glenayre UMS platform provides benefits to both the service providers and their subscribers. Service providers gain from using the UMS because they can provide the services that subscribers are demanding, differentiate themselves from their competitors and gain additional revenue streams. Subscribers benefit from the convenience the UMS platform provides through its variety of services that allow them to quickly and easily manage their messages.

Scott,

how much money do you think you could make if you had one hell of a lot of cash right now and could buy with a lot of that 2 to 3 trillion sitting on the side.

Nuff said, trust me they will make a livid fortune. Go back and look at the Bonus pay out last Dec. to their people during this HORRIBLE year.

BTW - I just find it kind of interesting that all the Houses upgraded each other the other day before reporting bad earnings and you don't see the DOWNGRADE upon DOWNGRADE and the last time I looked they are always hurt by a poor economy that they are telling us we are going to have.

THE SCAM MARCHES ON.
