To be long-term successful in the market you must accept that you can't call tops and bottoms and learn to live with it. There are ways of coping. Another way of coping is to dollar cost average into positions you think are a screaming buy in a declining market. For me in this downturn that could be nine month of louder screaming.

I notice how vitrually every day CNBC has people on who will help make your portfolio more defensive. More defensive after a 65% market drop?!?! Isn't it a bit late for this? It would be absurd if if weren't so comical.

Yeah, I pointed that out on my site the other day when more and more are saying they are scared and want to sell.

What has MORE risk for a portfolio? NASDAQ 5100 or NASDAQ 1881?

Why are people MORE scared NOW than they were at NASDAQ 5100?

Just normal, human reaction that you have to learn to do the opposite of if you want to make money.

I remember when Bagley bought some LRCX at $24 (pre 3:1 split) and it kept going down.. I think you and others bought at $15 or $17 and I said I really didn't see a reason for it to stop going down so I would TRY to sit on my hands longer as we dropped below book value...I had a small position I Paid $25 for from a previous cycle. I started to buy at $12 and bought more at $10 before it bottomed just above my next buy point of $8! (remember, these prices are all pre split!)

Well, today even Bagley's buy of LRCX at $24 (now $8) look darned smart with the stock at $24 as we are only talking about the Summer - Fall of 1998 for these buys!
