Daniel, I think you will enjoy the book; it's a timeless classic!
To clarify my previous statement a little
<<But I believe that our future is already laid out.>>

At this point I am of the opinion that we won't be able to nip this bear in the proverbial butt. It is going to have to run it's full course. The bad thing is that it could very well become a global cycle(which would take considerably longer to complete)

First it was isolated to Japan. Then it was(in the US) in the techs but only company specific. It progressed to sector specific and quickly became a tech(in general) specific problem. Now it has infected the Dow(which has been/still is aching to be dismembered). As you mention about BT, it could next spread to Europe and other Asian countries.

AG is being blamed for everything. He makes a great scapegoat- which is part of the problem. People still refuse to acknowledge the problem and surely don't want to blame themselves. I believe the spending habits in this country are mostly to blame- I will admit guilt to a degree as well.

However, as I was discussing with someone on another thread, I do not believe people carrying a credit card debt should be buying stocks- he strongly disagreed with me, and he is an accountant I believe.

The bottom line is that spending MUST slow down before things will become healthy again. Once spending is under control, the markets will again rise, however, it may be a long time coming.

P.S. please note that I understand to a corporate spending and debt to a degree are necessary. And borrowing to finance one's home is acceptable also. I just think that people every where will have to curb their appetites for all the extra little toys they want. Nothing worse than giving a little child free roam in a candy store. Easy credit is the same thing.
