I believe the essential qualifications are "occupied" and "without any overt intention to steer them away from their ancient faith". How many unoccupied Catholics countries acted similarly, or how many occupied countries took in children but could not resist the urge to proselytize, I don't know for certain. The main point is this: who do you think is more representative of Catholicism, Hitler or the rescuers? A non- practicing Catholic with his head full of Nietzsche or clergy and members of religious orders?
