"We need to have a plan for how we are going to manage spectrum long-term, and that includes a set of rules for how we promote innovation and bring out the next generation of applications rather than just transferring money to government," he added.

Interesting observation, particularly at this juncture. It is unassailable that the pan european standard vaulted gsm to the forefront in wireless. However, a lack of standards here in the US seems now to be paying off in the roll out of a superior technology. My preference would be for minimal government interference and let the technology deal with roaming and spectrum issues, BWDIK.

Ruffian: The shoot itself in the foot company has come up with an ultimate absurdity.

What does MOT need?

Whatever it is, it is not new spectrum.

New leadership sure, but if MOT is unable to compete in the real here and now, why should anyone think MOT could in any new playing field, i.e. new spectrum?

The Q has demonstrated (and Nextel confirmed) current spectrum will carry data at the speeds needed.

New sprectrum, maybe some day, not soon.

This man needs to retire.

Best.

I hear the GSMers cry in India
I hear the GSMers cry in Europe

Running out of spectrum
Running our of Capacity

GPRS phones are faster? Are they?
GPRS phones are hotter? Are they?
GPRS phones are coming? Are they?

EGDE is going to happen
EDGE is coming
EDGE is here

WCDMA Spectrum not an issue?
WCDMA is the future?
WCDMA is roaming?
WCDMA is cheaper?
WCDMA is faster?

But where are the units, the speed, and spectrum

They are universal,
They are cheap,
They are fast,

They are coming,
They are here,
They are

NOK, Road to 2.5G and 3G (GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA)

<Motorola chief calls for spectrum rebates>

Is there any way to put MOT on ignore? I guess when your stock is in the toilet and your company is failing at just about everything you'd say just about anything.
