Andreas: The problem with this approach is that e.g. you could get identical battery run time with an Transmeta ultra-light notebook (small battery) and an 1 GHz PIII "desktop" laptop (two big batteries). This doesn't tell you anything and could lead you believe that both CPUs consume about the same power. This maybe a good approach for people interested in buying available laptops (and that's why everyone is doing it this way) but it doesn't tell you the "real story" at all.

There are two completely different - and equally valuable - stories. One is the component vs component, the other is the system vs system. Especially with notebooks, the second is very, very important as it is not really possible to DIY.
