It is not necessarily "irrational" to have an opinion different than your own. They (neocon and Pilch) seem to be having a discussion on a topic that is fairly relevant and one that people will need to make a personal decision on at some point in the near future.

They have laid out why the feel the way they do. You have responded by insulting them for having a different opinion. Why not join the argument and point out what you disagree with instead of stating that "perhaps they feel personally threatened or insecure".

I am not against anyone's lifestyle or sexuality, but do feel that a marriage is between a man and a woman. I guess that makes me "irrational" to you.

Or not, as the case may be. Since there is no "discovery" in evidence, the dispute may be irresolvable. Do you have a means of calibrating propriety that will command universal assent? The funny thing is, of course, that I am taking the relatively liberal side in all of this......

<<mourn not the tyrannosauri>>

I noticed a discussion on BR about Bertrand Russell, and, recalling that I dislike him, but forgetting precisely why, I set out on google to remind myself of the reason. Work intervened and then I lost interest; but before that happened, I did have to acknowledge that he produced some good quotes. And I came on some other quotes I thought you might enjoy, too:

Every advance in civilization has been denounced while it was still recent. - Bertrand Russell

Homosexuality is god's way of insuring that the truly gifted aren't burdened with children. - Sam Austin

[One we might all keep in mind...] Every person takes the limits of their own field of vision for the limits of the world. - Arthur Schopenhauer

When authorities warn you of the sinfulness of sex, there is an important lesson to be learned. Do not have sex with the authorities. -- Matt Groening

Making fun of born-again Christians is like hunting dairy cows with a high powered rifle and scope. -- P.J. O'Rourke

The radical of one century is the conservative of the next. The radical invents the views. When he has worn them out, the conservative adopts them. -- Mark Twain

[This one is to present my new view, that no one, hetero- or homo-, should marry, if he or she is halfway decent] 1. Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband... 8. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. 9. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
-- St. Paul, I Corinthians

God created sex. Priests created marriage. --Voltaire

The road to truth is long, and lined the entire way with annoying bastards. --Alexander Jablokov

If it turns out that there is a God, I don't think that he's evil... the worst that you can say about him is that basically he's an underachiever. - Woody Allen

Fear is the parent of cruelty. -- James Anthony Froude (1818-1894)

And, thames, hehe....

I didn't know he was dead. I thought he was British. --Unknown
