<<Do you consider the marriage of an elderly widow and widower to be a distortion of marriage? Or a young couple that is either disinclined or unable to have children?

New cans of worms being opened. In case one, there is a trend for geezers to live together so as not to upset their SSI payments.

Case two, many will adopt children and raise them in a normal loving home.

Karen:

"Do you consider the marriage of an elderly widow and widower to be a distortion of marriage? Or a young couple that is either disinclined or unable to have children?"

What an interesting argument. There can be no doubt that marriage has historically existed, not for the protection of the parties involved in the marriage but for the protection of children. In time past when most people marrie young had kids. the wife took care of the kids and the husband was the breadwinner, this probably worked out in 99% of the cases. Society has changed a lot. Is this a permanent change? Who knows? But your comment is thought provoking. Suppose we redefined marriage and said it could only occur when there are children. That two people who have children either biological or adopted are deemed married by that fact. I wonder where that would lead us. Any thoughts?

Dear Karen, you ask Do you consider the marriage of an elderly widow and widower to be a distortion of marriage? Or a young couple that is either disinclined or unable to have children?

I know of no reason to assume that any man and women who marry are disinclined or unable to have children. So I guess I don't understand why you feel the question has any splunk.

I do believe that two lesbians or two homosexual men engaged in mutual masturbation or sodomy of whatever sort will not conceive a child.

Do you consider the marriage of an elderly widow and widower to be a distortion of marriage?

Certainly not, as the two obviously reflect human biological identity-- they are male/female as is every single human individual in creation.

Or a young [hetero] couple that is either disinclined or unable to have children?

Certainly not and for the same reason.
