Tszyu, the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association super-lightweight champion, refuted suggestions he was running away from Judah, the International Boxing Federation title-holder. He emphasised his priority was making a mandatory defence of his WBC crown by July, probably against unbeaten No1 contender Oktay Urkal. Tszyu said the contest could possibly take place in Russia, where he was born. US television network Showtime, which has both Tszyu and Judah under contract, provisionally pencilled in a unification bout between the two for May19 or June2. Both Judah's promoter, Gary Shaw, and Jay Larkin, the head of Showtime, insisted money was not an issue for the Australian. But Tszyu rejected that assertion and said the initial offer to fight unbeaten Judah had been unacceptable. "They say money is not an issue, but the money is an issue. I deserve much more, and I'm not happy about it," Tszyu said. Replying to Shaw's claim that he was running from Judah, Tszyu said: "I don't care what they say. They know the full story and they're just trying to protect their interests. "Jay Larkin is a Showtime man and he wants the Judah fight, but he has to understand that these are the rules and you fight against the No1 contender once a year." Asked whether he wanted to fight Judah this year, Tszyu replied: "Of course. The fight with Judah is not an issue. I will fight him but on different terms than they have proposed to me."
