Buying a house is(or should be) an investment. Why would you pay rent if you can buy and pay a little more than rent? After 25 years, you will have something to show for it.

I think you are carrying it to extremes(again to suit your own argument) by exampling the purchase of a bed. The fact is that the average American carries approximately $8,000 balance on their credit cards. That's a whole lot of beds wouldn't you agree?

What I'm talking about is someone going out and spending a couple thousand or even hundred for say Christmas presents that they know is beyond their means. But they have an image to maintain. Also, how about all those people buying expensive cars- just because their neighbor(in a neighborhood that is too expensive for their income) has one. Ego and vanity are a deadly. A good dose of humble pie is in order!

You are about the most ignorant person I have met on SI. I hope for your sake you are still young and that is wherein your stupidity lies. Good luck with your future.

<<See you in 25 years bud!>>

Yeah, I'll toss you a coin while you wait in line at the local soup kitchen; talking to your other homeless buddies that are still blaming someone else for their own ignorance.

ignorance is bliss

You must be in a pretty blissful state.
