Hello, my knowledgable friend:

You are so right, of course about the window dressing. I've been wondering how the margin call situation fits in. Here's what Hahn has to say about it:

No margin calls were erased by market action. That means the big margin calls are
due on Friday. The day before the weekend may produce a death blow, especially to those who need to
cash out to pay income tax bills. If we don't get the job done on Friday, the pain will carry over into the
last week of the month. Window dressing is going to represent a purging of losers and a “gathering in” of
desirable names. To me, that means the big cap techs are going to be sold and the energy sector is going
to be bought.
