I view power as a commodity. I understand your argument from a fundamental standpoint, but it is not an apples to apples comparison. All my power outlets are beige and I have no need for a colored one. Just affordable consistent power is all I ask for.

That said, I have never lived in a successfully deregulated power market. Could be great. When it is half regulated like it is in CA there can be abuses, like when power costs rise 10 fold to the utilities in less than a year. Causes some big headaches and makes our once fine state look like a laughing stock.
