Exacctnt, the economy will NOT go into deep recession. With the Fed making sure that the liquidity is there, interest rates are very low, the economy will come back. The dynamics are just not there for a severe and prolonged recession. All these comparisons with 1990 japan and 1929 US are hogwash. Sure there were excesses in the last 2-3 years. They have been removed very fast by this market and might do so for some more time. The companies which went bankrupt deserved to go that way because they really didn't have a business model. The market could down some more, but I don't think it will lead to a deep recession.
