Low cost EV68 systems using 760 DDR chipset

Here's something interesting, courtesy of Paul Demone:
-----------------

Saw this mentioned at alphanews.net:

samsungelectronics.com

A 760 based DDR SDRAM motherboard with Alpha EV68 ("starting" at 800 MHz) and 4 or 8 MB DDR synch SRAM external L2 cache. The UP1500 designation is
consistent with API product nomenclature but this model isn't mentioned at the API web site. Did Samsung spill the beans early?

John:

"1,3,4 kind of work together -- hopefully the Q3 version of Palomino will be more robust w.r.t. chipsets and include other features like SSE or SSE2."

The palomino family'll probably raise the bar by at least the same amount as has the Athy...Hopefully for INTC, the P4 will have evolved considerably by then, or the P4 could remain on the outside looking in!!!

<If so, how is it that AMD can make Palomini with 64K L2 and with 512K (or larger?) L2 available in the second quarter, but it'll be Q3 before the 256K L2 Palomino is ready?>

To me it does not make sense to release a desktop Palo in volume now. The pipeline is full of T-birds and they are killing P4/P3 on the desktop. There are no competitive reasons to obsolete the inventory. The mobile Palo will take 100% share from P3 and 0% from T-bird.
