Well, the last administration allowed eight oil giants to merge into three. I heard no complaints from consumer groups.

I do know that there has been no new gasoline refineries built in something like 20 years despite the fact that demand has increased. They cite onerous EPA rules.

I remember when oil was priced at this level in the 1980's and gas at the pump was $1.17, not the $1.60 we pay in CT now.

But I also know that MTBE wasn't there either, destroying the ground water with no air pollution benefit.

I read that MTBE provides no pollution benefit to cars with fuel injection and results in 6% worse mileage. Last time I looked 99% of cars were so equipped.

MTBE has destroyed 1/3 of the ground water in New England and yet the EPA won't back off. I understand that CA even sued them
