But silicon toys are much cheaper, both in terms of absolute $$ and in terms of monthly payment if financed. Plenty of people use silicon toys for retail therapy, which very few people do with houses and cars.

Most people will have lower energy bills for March than they did for February: heating season is ending and air conditioning season hasn't started yet. The increase in discretionary cash that results may well allow people to buy the toys that they didn't feel like they could afford before.
