Dave, You flatter yourself....sorry, I couldn't resist that.;~)) Did I ever tell you about the time I had a Japanese guy stay with me for a couple of months? Anytime anyone got within passing distance of him, he would bow which made you feel you should return the gesture. I had no idea that they still did that in Japan. Finally, after fearing that I would crunch several disks, I asked him to chill with the bowing. It was much better after that but I could never get up the nerve to ask him to stop with the slurping of soup, noodles, spaghetti etc. Apparently, that's a sign in Japan that you like the food.....but it made it hard to have a conversation with other people. <g> And then you should have seen when he asked me to help him learn how to drive on the right side of the road. That was real fun!!! I joke but he was a really interesting guy...he had just grad. from the University of Tokyo and was expected to take over his father's fairly big structural steel company in which he had no interest. He was scheduled to get married when he got back to Japan and produce an heir and frankly, he did not sound to happy about that either. And then he began to believe people were making fun of him on the street because he was Asian and he asked me if I was embarrassed to be seen with him. At first I thought he was playing with me but then I realized he was serious. I told him that while there is prejudice for different groups in the US, normally its not that overt. I don't think he believed me. ted
