Sudan: Talisman Gushes Over Results

CALGARY, March 23 (Energy24) - Talisman Energy has found more oil on its land concession in Sudan, along with drilling 21 successful wells in Alberta, said chief executive officer Jim Buckee.

In a conference call with analysts, he said a successful exploration well had been completed at Shelungo, on the west side of the Greater Nile Oil Project and produced oil in "significant quantities."

Buckee said it was the first time proven oil has been produced on the west side of the property.

With a 25 per cent stake in the GNOP, Talisman's share of output is 52,750 barrels per day, forecast to reach 65,000 barrels per day this year.

He said the company plans to spend C$120 million this year, drilling 17 exploration and 25 development wells.

Buckee, after indicating last month Talisman would consider selling is Sudan interests, said signals from the Bush administration about possibly loosening sanctions on Sudan had given him reason to hang on.

He also reported Talisman drilled 21 successful wells in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies last year.
