PCCW strikes B2B e-biz tie-up with ChinaECNet

Hong Kong telco PCCW announced a partnership between its MartPOWER eMarketplace and ChinaECNet, a vertical B2B exchange for electronic components between mainland buyers and international suppliers, as part of a plan to enhance the telco's greater China strategy.

ChinaECNet – a JV launched in January 2000 by the MII's China Center of Information Industry Development, New York-listed Avnet and Silicon Valley-based Global Techmart, Inc – currently has 30,000 registered members browsing its ChinaECNet.com platform, with transactions totaling 7 million yuan (around $846,000) a month.

PCCW's MartPOWER – a B2B horizontal electronic marketplace launched in October last year – has targeted an initial year trading volume at more than HK$300 million ($38.5 million).

MartPOWER and ChinaECNet are scheduled to be connected by the middle of this year.

According to PCCW, one of MartPOWER's goals is to establish strong links with promising vertical e-business portals to create an effective B2B trading community for companies in the Asia-Pacific region.

The tie-up with ChinaECNet is the latest in a series of deals from PCCW geared towards building up its service portfolio in greater China. Other such initiatives include last week's Net content distribution deal between PCCW Corporate Access satellite services and broadband access provider World Master Resources, as well as the introduction of 100% service availability guarantees for IPLCs to and from China.
