(AP) -- Federal prosecutors believe that a paid staffer on the successful 1996 campaign of Sen. Robert Torricelli helped arrange a fund-raising dinner and art auction with two French nationals, triggering a series of campaign finance violations. Investigation documents unsealed Thursday at the request of two newspapers reveal that one of the men, Philippe V. Hababou, pleaded guilty to a campaign finance misdemeanor in September and implicated Torricelli campaign staffer Adam C. Crain. ''I didn't realize how easy it was to buy or get close to an American politician,'' Hababou told The New York Times in Friday's edition. I see. So, now all the evils of history are the responsibilty of the reigning Presidential party of the time. So: 1) Republicans are responsible for the Great Depression 2) Republicans are responsible for the genocide of the American Indian. 3) Republicans are responsible for the huge run up in the national debt. 4) Republicans are responsible for a) Sinking of Titanic (1912-Taft), b) killer midwest tornados (1925-Coolidge) c) floods in China that killed 3.7 million (1931-Hoover) etc etc etc. Tactics of mind control, terror, suppression of free thought are clearly tactics of the extreme RIGHT as well as the extreme LEFT. Those who would take away the rights of free speech and expression sow the seeds of such repression. Uh, attacks on free speech and expression? Isn't that closer to YOUR backyard?
