Alcatel has supplied all communication applications and the entire infrastructure, based on the leading-edge Alcatel OmniPCX 4400. Additionally, all data communications will use Alcatel products. On April 1, 2001, the German Federal government's relocation to Berlin will be completed with the move into the Federal Chancellor's Office on the Spree river. The Chancellor had already moved to Berlin in 1999 and has been working from a temporary office at the Schlossplatz. Alcatel has established a communications network for the new Chancellery consisting of three Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 communication servers. These systems are connected to another Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 in the Chancellor's private residence and three Alcatel OmniPCX 4400 at the Chancellor's office in Bonn by a government-owned telecommunications network. A total of 650 employees telephone using Alcatel Reflexes(TM) handsets, thus allowing all features of the communications network to be used throughout the network. Alcatel has also established a data communications network in the Federal Chancellery. An Alcatel OmniSwitch LAN Switching Platform allows computers at the 450-odd workplaces to communicate with each other. "The Chancellor's Office has long been a customer of Alcatel. Alcatel telecommunications and data systems were used both in the Bonn office and in the temporary office in Berlin," explained Klaus Wolf, Manager for Alcatel's e-Business activities in Germany. In addition to the Chancellery, Alcatel communications systems are installed in the new buildings of the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Foreign Office, the Federal Press and Information Office as well as in numerous other federal departments and agencies.
