I understand someone's personal reasons for not wanting to own a firearm. If they are afraid of it, or don't handle it properly death or injury could result. But if a home invasion robbery happens (more common all the time, at least in the Bay Area) I want a fighting chance. Your opinion (I assume) is that you or your children would have a better chance of killing yourselves than the off chance that you could save your family. Mine is not. I am careful with the storage and handling (see assuming responsibility) and it comforts me (and my wife) to know that we could confront such a situation with more than pleas for mercy.

We also have a cool German Shepard that would make the robber think twice before a selecting our house so we are double protected. For family safety they are awesome in addition to being great companions and members of the family.
