Sonera was supposed to merge with another carrier by the end of last year. I wonder why it hasn't happened. The article is erroneous in saying that group 3G purchased their German license for $8 billion. The real number is close to $6 billion. Also, Sonera isn't debt ridden, as the article again incorrectly reports. It is undergoing planned asset sales of minority interests in mobile carriers it invested in during the past five years to finance its share of the license fee.
