The Nasdaq Composite rose 43.02 to 1,940.72. But the Nasdaq 100 Index gained 1.2 percent to 1,721.52 points. The PSE Technology Index gained 3 percent. Computer hardware staged a strong mid-day turnaround, as shares of Compaq (CPQ: news, msgs, alerts) , the world's top personal computer seller, gained $1.40, or 7 percent, to $20.80. It sparked a rally throughout the sector as shares of Apple Computer gained 7 percent, and Dell Computer rose 6 percent.
