scotty-

as a quote afficionado, i must speak up and say that your "source" for those funny quotes has mis-attributed many of them. i recognize several that were made by other "bushophonics" speakers, such as danforth quayle and george sr.

they're still funnie though.

some things that are NOT FUNNIE:

1)returning to the "cold war"
2)suggesting govt. financial support of religious charities
3)flip flopping on international global warming treaty - withdrawing support for CO2 emissions reductions
4)supporting expanded oil and gas exploration in protected areas
5)disallowing airline unions to strike
6)ending the American Bar Association's half-century role in screening prospective Supreme Court justices and other nominees to the federal bench
7)having not even the slightest clue that "it's the economy, stupid"

there are things happening in the first 100 days of this administration that will take 20 years to correct and recover from.

Is the Shrub actually the Quail in disguise? Mayhaps Casey Stengel or Yogi Berra?

Caught Shrub's speech yesterday on the tube. Getting pretty deep around here. What's up with "price controls caused the oil crisis in the 70's"? The way I remember,it was caused by an acute shortage of gas because OPEC turned off the taps. The onliest controls I remember is having to fill up on even or odd days, depending on your license plate. Price controls? Gas went from like 32 cents to a buck and a half in a few years, once the first time and again a few years later, whilest the oil companies were making record profits.

The energy thing is a good example, maybe the only one, why regulated monopolies are important. Things worked a lot better in Calif when the companies were under state regulation. Now, Calif. is getting ripped off. The PUC and FERC have already stated that there were 100M in overcharges by the suppliers, mainly based in (surprise) Texas. The PUC says there are an additional 6B in rip offs and have sent that to FERC. Know whthShruis so blase about the whole thing? Cuz his buddies are making all the money, while Houston's air has become dirtier than LA's. So much for deregulation. Just one more rip-off by the corporations.

As far as tax cuts, the thing that has put money in my pocket is falling interest rates. Probably already saved me $10/ paycheck, which is no big deal, except psychologically. Right now, I am trying to pay off my credit line, so I am happy to see it come down. I pay off my debts before I give mice elf a raise. Why can't Bush do the same? 8 years ago, it was all about paying off the debt so our kids wouldn't have to. What happened to that notion? Is this anyway to run a family's, or a government's budget?

When is this market going to get its elf together?
