for the same reasons any software company issues betas, upgrades, service release packs and/or totally revamped new versions of their products.
does Photoshop 6 mean Photoshop 5 was a piece of crap??

i did notice just one problem with the new version, sometimes, when CLOSING the program, this message appears:

<<The instruction at "0x0187186d" referenced memory at "0x018935bc". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program.>>

maybe some of you guys were referring to this when talking about "crashes"?
it's not a crash because the program runs like a charm all day long without interruptions, it just happens when one decides to CLOSE the program, and only sometimes.

___
<<Then why are they releasing beta versions of the product to attempt to resolve user issues?>>

LOL! Brings back fond memories.. I used to live about 1 mile from there.. in Greenbrae. It is the ultimate torture for a max security prisoner to look out onto one of the most scenic views in California.. yet be locked up for life.

2nd to San Quentin is a sentence to perpetual use of QCharts.

Today's List of Problems, directly from Qcharts.
These obviously have nothing to do with user incompetence or poor equipment <g>

Today: Friday, March 23 (Last Update – 9:56 EST)

There is an ongoing issue with our QCharts servers in Boston where our data provider's servers are losing connectivity to their ticker plant, which is causing erroneous Level II information and small gaps in intraday charts. We are in contact with our data provider in order to resolve this as soon as possible.

Snyvale QCharts servers are experiencing a network saturation problem at the open and close of the stock markets. Our system administrators are working on upgrading our network to address this problem.

Due to a problem on Monday with our data provider, S&P Comstock, NYMEX and COMEX data will be missing that day's intraday trade information. This data is unrecoverable. Also, due to incorrect trades sent by our data provider, S & P Comstock, on 02/05/01 Bulletin Board stocks and NASDAQ's "All sessions" intraday charts are erroneous. Our engineering team is working with our data integrity team in order to clean up these errors as quickly as possible.

Ongoing Issues:
- Server Queuing
Who is affected: QCharts users
Symptoms: Delayed response in filling data requests during high volume periods (i.e. first and last 30 minutes of trading)

Due to server capacity issues, the above symptoms can be experienced. Our entire development staff is working to resolve this issue on the highest priority level as possible.

- Emini Futures' Reset
Who is affected: Users of the ES futures
Symptoms: Erroneous High or Low (using the previous day's value)

There is a continuing reset problem with the ES futures resetting properly, and carrying the previous day's high and low price. Our developers are working with our data provider to resolve this.

- Island Book Reliability
Who is affected: QCharts Island Book users
Symptoms: Stale or missing Bid/Ask quotes; unusual characters displayed in Island window.

We are experiencing network connectivity problems with our connection to the Island ECN. Our System Administrators are working closely with Island to implement direct connections while concurrently upgrading and expanding our Continuum server farms.

- Corporate Action Adjustment File
Who is affected: QCharts and LiveCharts users
Symptoms: Missing or erroneous corporate action adjustments (i.e. splits)

The split adjustment file, CorpActs.inf, is not updating correctly on QCharts and LiveCharts systems. We are working to resolve this problem as quickly as possible, however there is a work-around for QCharts users. Please exit QCharts, find and delete the CorpActs.inf file (located in the QCharts directory), and then restart the application. This will ensure the latest Corporate Actions file is received on your system.

- Option Naming
Who is affected: QCharts and Butterfly Corner option chain users
Symptoms: Improperly titled option symbols; incorrect option chains

Due to conflicts caused in the storing of historical option chains, the process that assigns titles to each option symbol is experiencing problems. Our development team is working on ways to address this issue.

- Historical Data Merging

Who is affected: All Quote.com users
Symptoms: Historical data not merged onto new symbol

Our Financial Data Integrity department does not currently have the ability to merge data records from one symbol to another. A tool is under development to allow this process to take place.

We appreciate your feedback, suggestions and, at times, patience as we continue to make these improvements. For further questions, comments or concerns regarding this update please click on the Feedback link at the bottom of this page.

Been reading how "the staff is working hard to remedy these problems" for weeks. Frankly I think they've all left the building long ago <g>
