It's good for Sun because successful content providers are going to need lots & lots of servers & storage. They're going to be buying the vast majority of their equipment from 2 companies: Sun & IBM.

Software is a commodity for pc's but HOW the content is delivered is a different story. On TV, the software could be the script to a sitcom, but how that program is marketed and conveyed to the public is the key to its success. Software plays a big role in the internet, but good old-fashioned retail-business savvy is what will sell it.

To take the analogy a little further, the TV is just the thin client. Sun sells thin clients but they also sell the fat servers that drive them. That's a little more like Philco making the TV, the receiving towers, the transmission equipment, the recording devices, the studio equipment etc etc.
