Fyo, Re: 1MHz steps? This might have been an illusion created by whatever method AMD chose to display the frequency (or maybe a misunderstanding of some sort), because AMD have publicly stated that the demo system had only 6 different "levels", but that shipping systems would have up to 32.

No, that's a misunderstanding of your part. There are indeed six different general performance levels but the automatic mode is one of them. If you set it to automatic, it switches the clock-speed between 400 and 1000 MHz in 1 MHz steps anytime it wants. I have a photo with the demo system running at 827 MHz, and you can see a "shadow" of 824 MHz behind it (that means the time between changes is almost as fast as the time for the camera to take the picture). That's why I was so extremely impressed by the Power Now demonstration. I also took a small movie of the presentation and might digitize it in a few days if there's interest.
