Michael:

"It's not just the far right and or far left which use politics to advance their agenda. It's everyone in between a1s well."

Good point. We often forget that Mao was right "all power comes from the barrell of a gun". When we pass a law we are holding a gun on those who do not want to comply. Lest I be misunderstood, I am not saying there should be no laws, but we shouldn't be so cavalier about imposing our wishes on others.

I also believe that there is a third group in between the Republicans and Democrats. Call them 'compassionate conservatives' or 'new democrats', but basically I believe they are intelligent people who are tired of having to include the more radical ideas of their parties. It is my observation that there is a group of people who are:

1) Fiscally responsible, and demand such from their government.
2) Intelligent, and demand proper education for our kids.
3) Compassionate, and want to make sure that there is both a safety net and a helping hand for those who both need and deserve.
4) Prochoice, those not necessarily personally in favor of abortion.
5) World aware; not afraid of having an America that leads the nation and works with other nations to reduce tyranny.
6) Ethical - strong ethics, taught to our kids, but backed up with the necessary discipline (tough laws).

Unfortunately, there is not a party that encompasses these platforms. Democrats embrace a some of it (prochoice, compassionate, somewhat world aware) and Republicans the rest (fiscally responsible, smaller and more efficient government, strong military, tough laws). I'd say neither political party embraces strong ethics, because politicans by nature are NOT ethical (after all, most are lawyers).

I'm for joining this middle group and kicking the two extremes in the behind.
