I think we all agree that the VAX was ahead of its time - fast forwarding to the present, by your same argument SUN has a HUGE 4 year advantage over HP and IBM (not sure what CPQ is up to here) in partitioning as they have had it for 4 years on the E10K. HP and IBM are just beginning to claim similar features for their high End Unix servers but have just started. Rolling this feature down to the 70K price level is an extension of the HW and SW functionality neccessary to support partitioning.

not an issue for US III - what I/O contention problem are you referring to?
