Thanks for your detailed answer to my questions.

Interesting idea of using the U.S. Taxpayer Identification Number instead of going through the hassle and cost of an offshore account. With this process I would have to file a U.S. tax return each year. A bit of a headache but not that bad. You mentioned “In terms of accounting, as far as I know, Canadians are only liable for U.S. tax on interest income earned, and of course, this does NOT include gains and losses, which are reportable only to Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency”. From my understanding of US/Canadian tax accounting practice this sounds correct. Do you know anyone that has successfully taken this route instead of the offshore account route taken by many Canadians traders? I am trying to figure out which one would be less hassle (and cost effective) at this point. Personally I don’t like the thought of paying $10K+ to open an offshore account and then have the worries of having my money held on a tropical island.

I took a good look at the new Best Direct’s trading interface. Very impressive compared to Lind-Waldock’s archaic interface and BD's old interface. I understand that you used Best Direct in the past. Can you, or anyone else out there share their opinions on Best Direct’s service, interface and ticket cost. I am paying almost triple the cost per ticket at LW ($15) compared to IB. I am not cheap but 10+ a day starts to add up very quickly (10 a day is $25,000 a year difference in commission costs between IB and LW). I plan on giving Best Direct a call on Monday to see if they accept Canadian account – I am sick on LW.

I have used Metastock EOD for years and am very familiar with the programming language (easy to learn for anyone new). I see the cost for Metastock Daytrader is now $1500US with a discount for upgrades - not that bad. I really like the data on demand service if it actually works. Could you please tell me how much is your monthly bill from Esignal for the datafeed for NAZ and S/P Futures/NAZ/DOW? Metastock does not publish Esignal’s costs and I couldn’t find datafeed alone on the Esignal page – just their software costs.

Thanks again for any and all answers.
