Thanks for that confirmation. Does it mean that inflation was low then ? I know that the last 50 year average of CPI is around 3 % and the 50 year moving average has been on the increase thorugh the last century.

Maybe the Fed kept rates lower than what long-run inflation would demand to stimulate the econ. Particularly in the 50's they were coming out of the severe depression caused by the 1930's and early 40's.

It would be hard to imagine rates going below 4 % for the 30 year in 2001/2002 time frames, BWDIK.
