Kevin:

I have read the book and I find the story about your grandfather fascinating.

Thanks.

Fantastic story! I guess everyone of our generation has some hero story to tell about their Dads or Grandfathers. My Dad was on the Northampton, a heavy cruiser that was sunk at the Battle of Tassafaronga. Fortunately, he got off of it before Pearl Harbor. He was in the Marine Corps before, during, and after the war, volunteered as a glider pilot, flew as a PBJ(=B-25) navigator-bombardier, and recruited new Marines, but he never saw action.

My father-in-law flew B-17s. He flew 13 missions before being shot down, and spent two years in a Stalag Hotel.

My Dad and father-in-law were both enlisted men but served in roles usually filled by officers. The Marine Corps had a nasty habit of busting everybody back to Corporal every time they changed specialties.
