Well, like I said, I think that the classification of the political spectrum is somewhat arbitrary, anyway. I was taught that it was a circle, with the left and right ends touching. Their ideologies are diametrically opposed, but like the poles of a magnet, they attract each other.

I believe that suppression of individual rights, for example, are an means to an end. In a utopian Communist society, there is no need to suppress individual rights, because no one desires them, because everyone's happy with their job and the society. This is pure bunk in practice, but works well for ants and bees.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that the necessary evils you've described of both ends are not a result of the ideologies but of the inability to make real people conform to those ideologies. Which is really the basic reason that neither work, and the basic reason that people gravitate towards Democracy.

As for the quotes, the context is everything. Everyone says stupid things at some time; stupid people make it a habit. Do we need to pull up the pages of Dan Quayle quotes?

Communism and Nazism are on the same side of the political spectrum - EVIL.
