Thanks for the insight. I guess I agree with the need for the bubble to burst. Who can forget the 'internet valuation' formulas that were used just a little while ago? How do you justify the huge valuations for companies with negative earnings, a fishy revenue stream, no business plan, and no future? Hey, let's make up a formula!

My contention is with how deflated the bubble has to be. Greenspan popped it hard, and is slow to stop its collapse. I'm not sure; can the consumer confidence numbers go negative? That seems to be the trend.

If Greenspan wants to play the leader, he needs to ACT the leader. I realize it is a tough job, trying to balance your actions with both the situation and the perception of the situation, but I think he failed. I think he could have thrown in the 1/4 point, then pointed to some piece of data for justification and face-saving. He would have been viewed as a magnanimous hero who was willing to throw himself on the sword for the economy. Instead, he took the egocentric 'safe' approach, and let down those who trusted him. Combined with "Hey-What-Day-Is-It-I-Don't-Know-If-I'm-Supposed-To-Say-The-Economy-Is-Up-Or-Down" Bush, it's throwing a shiver into investors and leaving a huge leadership void.

As long as I'm on a rant, can we also get him to stop this "Greenspeak" BS? It was always annoying, but now its gotten dangerous. Pretty soon he'll be offering parables.
