Look, the fact of the matter is that a person's chosen profession has a tendency to change the way he thinks. For instance, most of us felt that OJ Simpson was guilty as hell and deserved to at least go to jail for what he did. I believe he got off because he had a shitload of money and he hired great attorneys that pulled out all the stops to get him off the charges. Well, before my brother became a lawyer, he would have agreed with me that OJ should have been sent to jail. But being a lawyer, he gave the canned response, "The law worked as it was intended."

Now I don't consider my brother to be scum by any stretch of the imagination. I think he is extremely principled and more moral than most people. However, his views and morals have changed by the discipline he has immersed himself in. Your training tends to give you a new perspective. The rigid lines you used to draw between right and wrong start to blur by your immersion in the discipline and pretty soon, you have forgotten why you drew those lines to begin with. That's human nature. Just check out politicians. Most of these folks started out with pretty lofty ideals. They sure do change alot from their college days. Oh and btw, most people that we deal with on a part time basis, are for the most part perfectly decent human beings, but they are capable of an incredible amount of chicanery when given the opportunity. Believing anything different is just plain naive.
