"With a tear in my eye, I turned away from the IBM and ordered the DELL. It's showing a projected ship date of APR 10."

kind of out there a little bit, don'tcha think? <g3> they'll probably show up on your doorstep a bit sooner. they like to project further out just in case. but wow, that's good news! after all those computers... are you still excited?

"I blame it on this thread and all that talk of new computers last week, Mark; especially if I end up sleeping on the couch"

ahh, that's one of the nicest things i've heard someone say about this thread in a long time. thank you, and i hope your couch isn't one of those little short ones.

[ edit in: as you may already know, if you are seriously into waiting for your new dell, you can track its build out and ship date on the web. that's a kick. <g3> ]

:)

Steve ...

I agree with you on the decreasing "money saved" by building a box as opposed to buying one.

I really enjoyed your post on the 5200 vs 7220 , large vs small ...

harbinger of things ===
is Micron selling their PC making division ....
they have put together over the years a fine box ...

IBM leaving the PC market ...

it is getting tough to stick a box together at a competitive price without avidly hunting and finding great buys on the ingredients ...
it is definitely MUCH harder if one HAS to have certain brands, specs, etc ...

I build them, just as I used to build cars ..... not to made money necessarily, but to "keep my hand in" ...it does help me to stay abreast of things out there .....

I have NO idea how the multitude of shops make a living in the small town in which I live .... or how the many builders in cyberland will continue to operate in the future ...

You mention IBM ... golly, don't they make the most marvelously quiet hard drives ..... difficult to tell if they are at idle or seeking ...

I did mean to put into my previous post, just a tad ago, that I have pulled out and sold, and won't install a CDROM that runs faster than 48 ....
too noisy ... waaaaaay toooooooo noisy and too much vibration too ...

keep on posting ....
like your messages a bunch ...
