Rick,

I hadn't assigned a tertiary buy target for Packard, but I now do so at 6, pending a bit more research. They recently presented at a conference here in San diego which I missed. This coinncided with its low and subsequent recovery to today's levels, so they must have said something hopeful, now priced in. I will look for an archive of the presentation, but I didn't see one on the PBSC website.

Meanwhile, ABI has been pushing the new Prism 3100 Genetic Analyzer on its conference circuit:

appliedbiosystems.com

Lehman considers the sell-off due to lowered near-term guidance by ABI to be overdone and has raised its rating to Strong Buy. No target given yet, and the market seems to think the recovery so far is enough; the stock is in neutral today. According to BofA, Hunkapiller is speaking at the conference; maybe that's what investors are waiting for.

Perhaps I need to revisit PKI. In all the name change confusion, I might have misunderstood its revenue flows, which I deemed untricklish due to semiconductor biz. SWX:TECN; don't know them, will look.

Cheers, Tuck

Rick,

>>Table with title "caught in the crossfire" describes the loss of 6.3B in MC from ten stocks that they follow in the subsector......... ABI, WAT, AFFX, PKI, IVGN, BDAL, QGENF, PBSC, SWX:TECN, and TECH.<< emphasis mine

Why does BioCentury think Southwest Gas is in the biotech tool company subsector? Why do I get no quote for TECN (edit: could they be talking about some foreign company including Tecan)? What's up with this; is BioCentury on unapproved drugs?

Cheers, Tuck
