Fyo, Power Now! 2.0 riddle solved? aceshardware.com The motherboard manufacturer/BIOS writer can decide how many steps (1-32) are available to the user. The demo systems allowed the user to choose between 6 steps from 500 MHz to 1 GHz. Each time the user chooses another frequency, the voltage is set accordingly, on the fly. It also possible for the system automatically adjust the CPU clock frequency and voltage based on the system workload. When you are running a 3D-game, the CPU will automatically run at 1 GHz, while when you are typing a letter, the CPU will save battery life by running at 500 MHz. I knew that I saw six different states available in the demonstration. ;) But you were also right that there are "only" 32 different states for the automatic mode. So, maybe the tool that displayed the frequency had a lower refresh time than the changes occurred which gave me the illusion of 1 MHz changes. Anyway, 15-20 MHz changes should be still more than enough. The only remaining riddle now is: How long do the changes take (what means less than 200ms?) and how does the CPU handle them? Too bad Johan didn't asked more explicit about that, either. Andreas
