Karen:

You are quite right but the tyranny of the majority is not the exclusive province of religion. For example I know of no religious organizations that advocated internment of the Japanses American citizens during WW II. Also, remember that it was Christians who were at the center of the Abolishinist movement. And last but not least the very foundation of individual rights in our country is based on Religion and in particular, Christianity.

It is not by accident that the Declaration of Independence contains the phrase. "...endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights..."

I have little or no fear of the religious right. I am far more fearful of the extreme left, which is constantly trying to impose their will on us.

Dear Karen, you say >>>It's not just violence. One of the salient roles of our government is to protect individual rights in a democracy from the "tyranny of the majority."

How many individuals today have no rights and no life because the cowardly majority using the mantra of pro-choice has ratified their termination.
