I see the performance gains of the P4 SSE unit as being limited to specific niches, like graphics. Most user programs do not require vector calculations, but games are a notable exception.

I can see where you're coming from with that... but I'm still somewhat hopeful. The SSE2 most likely improves both SPECint and SPECfp as Intel displays these benchmarks proudly on their site... I find it hard to believe that something that improves SPECint is vector based, but I could be wrong... thoughts?
