A week of sideways to up would be nice here would it not: get everyone thinking base is consolidating and removing any hints of oversold. Ready to test long term trendline of S&P at 1000 or so?

OK what should IBM's chart for today be telling me? Looks like a perfect pennant to me, but I don't know what it means.

TA has a long history and a proven track record. There are hundreds of books on the subject and thousands of serious practitioners.

So did bleeding and the use of leeches in medicine.

It is a genuine field of study.

So is phrenology.

It's about identifying good risk:reward setups

Exactly. This is all my tool is as well.

I didn't mean to be flip about the formulas, what I'm trying to say is that I can tell you how the vectors are figured out and you may actually say to me, "Yes, that makes sense, I can see how that works." But that doesn't mean that you will have any kind of conviction that they will work. The hard part of using any tool isn't understanding how it works but having faith that it does. You can't have that until you see it work over and over. This is precisely why you have faith in TA.
