I don't see Loral's fundamentals as so dire. In the coming quarters SS/L should be back to generating at +ebitda of 20-25M$ (vs Q4's <12>); the broadband investment expense will be zero (vs Q4's <15>), and the GEO sat operating revenues and ebitda should continue to improve. Q1'01 ebitda, therefore, should be 60-70M$, which should be more than enough to service the net debt + pref'd divdnds of 16M$ per Q.

IMO, the conversion offer on the pref'd is not about cash flow, it's mainly about clearing the liquidation preference on the pref'd. If it helps BLS's old buddy Lanza to get a great price on the 45M shares of Loral now held by LMT (with shelf registration set to expire in less than two months), well, that would be twofer, wouldn't it?
