I think I'd be more concerned if the source were not Lynette "At&T" Explores 1xRTT Technology" Luna.cdg.org I thought I had read all the major press releases and overviews of all the major press conferences out of CTIA last week ... but this is the first I've heard of Mr. Eckersley. No one else reported on this, or mentioned his name. Ms. Luna doesn't say in her 'Holy Wars' expose what the subject of Nokia's press conference was, whether it was conducted by Eckersley - which I doubt (it could be the conference conducted by Rich Gerson, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Nokia Americas, or the conference conducted by The President of Nokia Americas or that conducted by Paul Chelgren, Vice President of Business Development with Nokia Mobile Phones. It most certainly was not part of Jorma Ollila's keynote piped in by satellite. She does not say if this was a response to a question in Q&A, or casual conversation with Eckersley, or whether she attended or picked it up from one of her Lucent or Nortel "sources", but one paragraph is directly quoted, so perhaps you should write her for more detail. I might add that Ms Luna doesn't always get her technical or historical facts straight ... an article of hers you asked me to comment on a month ago had "facts" wrapped around a flagpole. Well, Dr.Irwin Mark Jacobs resurrected the Holy Wars in November when he decided to base his corporate marketing program for 1xEV on FUD and Hype, so expect more of this."Eckersley also attempted to dispel the "over-hyped" myths concerning the spectral advantages of CDMA technology." On this one, I can simply say ... QUALCOMM has made themselves fair game."... because CDMA's advantages fade as more customers are added on the network." Not so sure about that one, but then again, I'm not so sure about Lynette. << This is slander, simply put >> Who is the slanderer? Eckersley or Luna? If I give you the impression that I do not consider Lynette Luna to be the most responsible journalist on the face of the wireless planet, then I have conveyed my sentiments appropriately. The 'Holy Wars' has been used in the title of MANY articles about the technology battles of the last decade. This one, is not one of the great ones."GSM can allow our carrier customers to enjoy open competition rather than being locked up in intellectual property." Somebody at Eckersley's level shouldn't be flapping his mouth about this, but then again, someone at Dr. Jacobs level hadn't oughta be carelessly flapping his yap to the FT Times, and putting shareholder value at jeopardy. Eckersley hasn't damaged my portfolio. Jacobs has. As they say ... people who reside in glass houses .... - Eric -
