Looks, its all relative....I look at history, and I look at the countries I've lived/worked/visited.....(some 20 odd)....Relative to these groups, the U.S. has the best mix of "hands off" government, personal freedoms, and unlimited opportunity I've ever seen.......you don't even have to be smart to make it in the U.S....you just have to have some common sense, be willing to learn from your mistakes, and work hard...(well...a little luck and good health also helps) Honestly, I struggle to think of any way the government really bothers me....sure, they take more of my money then I wish....there are a few laws, rules, regulations that I could do without....and educational system should be better....and I don't agree with policies implemented by either/both parties at times. But I am not going to compare my current fate to some "pie-in-the-sky" vision of what the U.S. could be....I am pretty happy with my abundance of freedom.....I know how bad things have been for others in history, and 98% of the world's population.. Quite honestly, I am more disappointed in the American culture (than our government)....American culture values some pretty weird things, and more manners in society (on an everyday basis) would make my life a lot more enjoyable and tolerable....I'd even be willing to pay higher taxes for it (but that's just me...) Please don't tell me you are a gun owner who thinks the government wants to take your gun. In that case, I'd think you'd like W! <G> Or is it that you want to do dabble in doobie without the government arresting/fining you....I've got no problem with legalizing pot....but, on the other hand, there is really no problem with getting it freely and not getting caught (BTW- I don't)...so where are these massive "controls"....I don't see it...
