US DVD player sales up 225.4%, in the latest week...........

According to VideoScan’s First Alert Reporting Retailers, for the week ending March 18th, DVD title sales were 1,856,000, down slightly from last week’s sales of 2,189,000, but still remaining strong. Year-to-date sales are 21,590,000, up 172.1 percent over DVD title sales in 2000!

DVD player sales were strong last week! According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), for the week ending March 16, 2001, DVD player sales were 196,316, up 225.4 percent over sales during this week in 2000, and up from the previous week’s sales of 114,243! Month-to-date sales are 554,952, up 211.5 percent over March 2000 sales and year-to-date sales are 1,682,839, up 77.3 percent over 2000 sales.

VCR deck sales for the week were below DVD player sales at 150,660, down (50.7) percent from sales during this week in 2000. Month-to-date sales are 727,843, down (20.6) percent from March 2000 sales and year-to-date sales are 2,657,359, down (22.6) percent from 2000 sales.
