Your AA criteria make a lot more sense to me than those promoted by Democrats such as Jesse Jackson. Why on earth Jesse Jackson's children, or Bill Cosby's kids should be given less stringent requirements to enter college than some poor white kids, always mystified me.

Kevin,

It is hard to imagine how a child who lives in the slums, has an addict for a parent, has to risk his life to go to the library to get online, has to risk his life to simply go outside his home, has no moral support or encouragement to do well in school, and has to get a job to help feed his siblings can possibly NOT be given a little extra help in getting a chance at a higher education. His or her B average shows a greater level of character then the A average child who had every advantage. Getting into the school doesn't assure success. IT just gives them an opportunity to help themselves. Colin Powell and Clarence THomas are two examples of AA but I don't believe it has to be limited to blacks. Any race should be able to qualify if they come from an underprivileged family or area.

Kevin:

Actually I don't think you are far off the mark. I am for giving any kid who has had it tough an opportunity. However, as you have pointed out, there is a big difference between a handout and an opportunity. Also, many simply will not take advantage of the opportunity when presented. I think it would be great to come up with a program that works and accomplishes this worthy goal.
